
Industrial Designer
Location: Charlotte, NC
Reports To: Lee Eckert
Summary:
The Industrial Designer at Alpha will be required to have experience in creating multiple, unique product design solutions and have the ability to communicate and present such ideas through sketches, 2D / 3D renderings, PowerPoint, mockups etc. Attention to detail, form development and a solid understanding of manufacturing / product development is a must. Collaboration with Lead Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and Product Managers is expected in order to refine and develop market driven solutions while meeting all deadlines and schedules. The Conceptual Design Manager must be able to effectively and productively manage his/her time while managing individual projects.
Responsibilities:
- Concept Development - research, conceptualization, ideation, 2D/3D CAD, refinement
- Product Development - collaboration with cross functional project team members throughout development to maintain design essence, including participation in design reviews as needed.
- Capture the market and technical requirements and translate them into highly intuitive, ergonomic, user-focused, visually correct and viable product solutions suitable for high volume manufacture.
- Create and maintain relevant industrial design documentation - color, material, finish selection, product graphics, CAD, prototypes.
Requirements/Qualifications/Skills:
- Strong ideation skills - i.e. research, sketching, form development, presentation
- Strong presentation skills and experience in selling ideas
- 2-D proficiency (Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDraw, etc.)
- 3-D proficiency (Pro-E, Rhino, Form-Z, etc.)
- Design process knowledge
- Manufacturing process knowledge
- Computer skills, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, File Management
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment with critical deadlines
- Strong attention to detail at all levels
